IPTAY Welcomes New Members to the IPTAY Board of Directors

Clemson S.C. - IPTAY, the fundraising organization for Clemson University Athletics, is excited to welcome three new members to the IPTAY Board of Directors. Beginning on July 1 in conjunction with the start of the 2018 fiscal year, Ben Griffith of Sumter, S.C., Andrew Smart of Greenville, S.C., and Brianna Woodsby of Spartanburg, S.C. will join the IPTAY Board of Directors. These three individuals have been elected to serve an initial two year term.
Through the public nomination process, IPTAY received a large and diverse pool of candidates through which Griffith, Smart, and Woodsby were selected. During this most recent nomination cycle, IPTAY had three board positions to be filled in the following geographic districts:
District 2 – South Carolina counties including Spartanburg, Cherokee, Union, Newberry, and Saluda County
District 6 – South Carolina counties including Dillon, Marion, Sumter, Florence, Clarendon, Williamsburg, Georgetown, Marion, and Horry County
District 10 – South Carolina counties including Greenville, Laurens, and Greenwood County
Griffith will represent District 6, Smart District 10 and Woodsby District 2.

With the introduction of these new members, we would like to thank those who will be rolling off the board on June 30. Steve Hawley and Mark Mussman who are completing their final term on the board, have both worked tirelessly for the IPTAY Board over the past several years. Each of them have represented IPTAY and Clemson University with the utmost excellence and we appreciate all that they have done and will continue to do for IPTAY and the Clemson Family.”
Jan Childress, representing District 1, has been elected to the Executive Committee and will serve as the Treasurer beginning next month.
A brief biographical background is provided for the new members below:
Ben Griffith, graduated from Clemson in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and then returned to Clemson to earn a Master's degree in city and regional planning in 1974. Today, Griffith is the owner of the State Farm-Ben Griffith insurance agency and is also the Co-Owner & President of the Griffith Financial Group, Inc. & Griffith Properties.
Since graduation from Clemson, Griffith has served Clemson by being a member on both the Clemson University Foundation Board as well as the Clemson University Board of Visitors. In addition to his service on these two separate boards, Griffith has been a member of IPTAY for 34 years.
Ben and his wife Deloris reside in Sumter, S.C. They have four children, Kimberly, Erin, Allison and Eric.
Andrew Smart, a Clemson student-athlete himself, played football for Coach Tommy West and the Tigers during the 1997 and 1998 seasons. Upon conclusion of his time as a student-athlete at Clemson, Smart earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Wingate University. Today, Smart is the Owner, CEO and President of Duke Brands.
An IPTAY member since 2008, Smart has been involved with the Tigerhood Mentorship Program, the All-In Foundation and the Clemson University Food & Sciences department.
Andrew and his wife Julie, who currently serves as an adjunct professor at Clemson in the College of Education, reside in Greenville, S.C. They have two children, Drew and Claire.
Brianna Woodsby, is a 2005 graduate of Clemson University where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in language and international trade. In 2016, she returned to Clemson to earn her M.B.A. Since 2007, Brianna has been the Director of International Trade for AFL in Duncan, S.C.
A resident of Spartanburg, S.C., Woodsby has been a member of IPTAY for 11 years and currently serves as the President of the Spartanburg Clemson Club. In 2013 she was named as a Clemson Young Alumni “Roaring Ten” honoree. In addition to her service to Clemson, she is a actively involved with of the Junior League of Spartanburg, is a member of the Young Leaders Society for the United Way of the Piedmont and serves on the Chapter Advisory Board of Kappa Delta sorority at Wofford College.
Woodsby and her husband Jon, have one son Luke.
